WOMEN IN GOVERNMENT - A SPONSORED SECTION
2025 INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT.
The “Inspirational Women in Local Government” project, now entering its fifth year, is intended to CELEBRATE women who are doing innovative and transformative work in local government; to ELEVATE more women as role models in local government; and to EDUCATE, through exploration of individual professional and personal journeys.
For several weeks, information on the “Women in Government” section of our website has featured news about the nomination process for this year’s honorees.
Now, after receiving dozens of nominations, the selection of our 2025 honorees is complete and we will be introducing one of our four “Inspirational Women in Local Government” honorees on each Thursday in March. The selection was made by the sponsors of this website section, Envisio, the Alliance for Innovation, and the League of Women in Government, as well as Barrett and Greene, Inc., which publishes Greenebarrett.com.
To the right of this introduction, you’ll see a photo of the fourth 2025 honoree, Alayne Krause, County Administrator, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. Click on the "Read More" link within that box to find a short profile and Q&A that shares her rise from college intern to county administrator, her advice to other women in local government, and the leadership lessons she's learning.
As she says, "I’ve had to learn how to assert myself, especially in male-dominated spaces where I’ve been mistaken for an assistant or treated dismissively. Being young and female in leadership can be tough, but I’ve found that being authentic, honest, and transparent works for me."
The interviews in this series took place over the last couple of weeks between the honorees and Envisio’s Liz Steward and Barrett and Greene Inc.’s Katherine Barrett. This is the fourth and final "Inspirational Women In Local Government" profile for 2025. At the close of this series, this homepage space will feature access to each of the four honorees through April 14. Afterwards, their stories will still be available on our "Inspirational Women Honorees" page from past years.
